Problem:

The customer needed to prepare a big quantity of housings for their assembly in a noiseless way and as fast as possible. This application was Photoneo’s first implementation of its bin picking solution.

Solution:

PhoXi 3D Scanner

Photoneo provided a complete bin picking solution for picking randomly placed small metal shiny objects from a bin that was proportionally much bigger, and placing them to a desired location and position (oriented placing). The ratio of the part size to the bin size was cca 1:900, whereby the size of the gitter box was 1200 x 800 x 800 mm. The application was a coil assembly with 99% of bin unloading and 7 seconds cycle time. The scanning distance was 2400 mm.

Discussion:

The customer decided for the Photoneo solution based on its competitive price and unbeatable performance. The quality and depth of field of the PhoXi 3D Scanner was crucial for meeting the client’s requirements and all the challenges described above.

The implementation of the solution led to time savings, reduction of costs and high increase in productivity.
